Driving safety systems
The SBC
TM
brake system is automatically
activated if you:
앫
unlock the vehicle using the key
앫
open the driver's or passenger door
앫
switch on the ignition
앫
depress the brake pedal
앫
release the parking brake
i
If you activate the SBC
TM
brake system with
the brake pedal, the pedal resistance is reduced
and the pedal travel is longer than usual the first
time you depress the brake. Pedal travel returns
to normal when you release the brake pedal.
When releasing the brake pedal, you may feel it
pulsate, and you may hear a noise. This noise in-
dicates that the SBC
TM
pump was activated and
ceases after a short while.
Risk of injury
G
If the SBC
TM
brake system is not deactivated
before service work is carried out – particu-
larly the replacement of brake pads – this
can lead to injuries caused by brake pistons
being forced out (e.g. crushing) or leaking
brake fluid (e.g. acid burns) since the sys-
tem automatically builds up a high brake
pressure in order to check the system.
The SBC
TM
brake system must be deactivat-
ed before carrying out work on it.
Always have brake pads replaced and other
work on the SBC
TM
brake system carried out
at a qualified specialist workshop which has
the necessary specialist knowledge and
tools to carry out the work required.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have
such work carried out at an SLR Service
Centre. In particular, work relevant to safety
or on safety-related systems must be car-
ried out at a qualified specialist workshop.
