Restore BIOS settings to factory default settings or clear a forgotten password
To restore BIOS settings to factory default settings or clear a forgotten password, do the following:
1. Prepare your server. See “Preparing your server and removing the server cover” on page 41.
2. Locate the Clear CMOS jumper on the system board. Then, remove any parts and disconnect any
cables that might impede your access to the jumper.
Note: Do not remove the memory modules or CPU.
3. Move the Clear CMOS jumper cap from the default position (pins 1–2) to the short-circuited position
(pins 2–3).
4. Reinstall any parts and reconnect any cables. Then, reinstall the server cover. See “Completing the
parts replacement” on page 101.
5. Reconnect the server to an ac power source and turn on the server. Then, wait for about 10 seconds.
6. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
7. Move the Clear CMOS jumper back to the default position.
8. Reinstall any parts and reconnect any cables. Then, reinstall the server cover. See “Completing the
parts replacement” on page 101.
9. Connect the server to an ac power source and turn on the server to restart the operating system.
Recover BIOS settings from a BIOS update failure
To recover BIOS settings from a BIOS update failure, do the following:
1. Prepare your server. See “Preparing your server and removing the server cover” on page 41.
2. Locate the Clear CMOS jumper on the system board. Then, remove any parts and disconnect any
cables that might impede your access to the jumper.
Note: Do not remove the memory modules or CPU.
3. Move the Clear CMOS jumper cap from the default position (pins 1–2) to the short-circuited position
(pins 2–3).
4. Reinstall any parts and reconnect any cables. Then, reinstall the server cover. See “Completing the
parts replacement” on page 101.
5. Reconnect the server to an ac power and turn on the server. Then, insert the BIOS update (flash update)
disc into the optical drive. The recovery session begins. The recovery session will take two to three
minutes. During this time, you will hear a series of beeps.
6. After the recovery session is completed, the series of beeps will end, and the system will automatically
turn off. Remove the disc from the optical drive before the system completely turns off.
7. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
8. Move the Clear CMOS jumper cap back to the default position.
9. Reinstall any parts and reconnect any cables. Then, reinstall the server cover. See “Completing the
parts replacement” on page 101.
10. Connect the server to an ac power source and turn on the server to restart the operating system.
