Open the retaining clip to disengage the memory module. One end of the module will be
slightly highly than the other.
Grasp the memory module at both ends; then, gently lift it vertically to remove it from the
slot.
After this task is completed
• Install a replacement unit (see “Install a memory module” on page 87 ).
Note:
Make sure to install a replacement unit after removing a memory module. Otherwise, the system
will execute memory downgrade to the closest supported combination, while some installed memory
modules will not be recognized by the system.
• If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use
any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

Attention:
Memory modules are sensitive to static discharge and require special handling. In addition to the
standard guidelines for “Handling static-sensitive devices” on page 43 :
• Always wear an electrostatic-discharge strap when removing or installing memory modules. Electrostatic-
discharge gloves can also be used.
• Never hold two or more memory modules together so that they touch. Do not stack memory modules
directly on top of each other during storage.
