PRS-DMM Self Adjusting Software
9.1 PRS-DMM Self Adjusting Software
9.1.1 Overview
The PRS-DMM Self Adjusting Software is a
Windows based software package using LabVIEW
2013 RTE.
The software is designed to be used with the PRS-
330 Programmable Resistance Substituter and the
Keysight 3458A or Fluke 8508A DMMs.
The DMM is used to measure the resistance of the
PRS-330, and then the software adjusts the output
resistance of the PRS-330 to achieve the closest
possible resistance value to the target resistance
value.
This can improve the accuracy of the PRS-330
from ±(70 ppm + 1 m
Ω
) to better than ±10 ppm
short-term without switching.
9.1.2 General Requirements
The PRS-DMM Self Adjusting Software does
require:
•
Windows 8 or Windows 10 PC
•
National Instruments GPIB-USB-HS or
equivalent GPIB interface
•
Fluke 8508A DMM or Keysight 3458A
DMM
•
PRS-330 Programmable Resistance
Substituter
•
Kelvin cables between PRS-330 and
Fluke 8508A
•
GPIB cables as necessary
9.1.3 Software Installation
Install the PRS-DMM Self Adjusting Software
using the supplied USB stick. This will install
the PRS-DMM software as well as the LabVIEW
2013 RTE. This software is also available at
http://www.ietlabs.com/prs-dmm.html
If using the PRS-330 with standard USB
interface, MCP2200 driver should be installed.
9.1.4 Connection between DMM and PRS-
330
Connect the PRS-330 to the DMM using good
quality low thermal EMF cables using a 4
terminal kelvin connection.
If the end use of the PRS-330 will be 2 Wire then
keep shorting links installed. In the menu of the
PRS-330 it should be con
fi
gured for “2W” Mode.
If the end use of the PRS-330 will be 4 wire then
remove shorting links. In the menu of the PRS-
330 it should be con
fi
gured for “4W” mode.
See section 3.4.10 for more information on
2-wire and 4-wire connections.
