Backup of HMCs
A backup of the HMC can be performed to the following media
򐂰 A UFD
򐂰 An FTP server
򐂰 A UFD and FTP server

Optional 32 GB UFD FC 0848
A new, optional 32 GB UFD is available for backups. The default that is shipped with the
system is an 8 GB UFD. SE and HMC backup files have been getting larger with newer
z Systems. The following features require more storage space for a backup:
– IBM zEnterprise Unified Resource Manager
– zBX
– IBM zAware
– Several previous z Systems SE backups
Backup of primary SEs
The backup for the primary SE of a z13s or zBX Model 004 server can be made to the
following media:
򐂰 The primary SE HDD and alternate SE HDD
򐂰 The primary SE HDD and alternate SE HDD and FTP server
Note: Backup FTP site is a static setting for an HMC. If an alternate FTP site is needed to
perform a backup, then this should be done from another HMC.
