IBM z13s Technical Guide
Note the following model upgrade information:
LICCC upgrade:
– Does not change the server model 2965 N10 because an additional node (3 SCMs and
memory) or CPC drawer is not added.
– Can change the MCI, the capacity setting, or both.
Hardware installation upgrade:
– Can change the server model 2965 N10 to N20, if an additional node or an additional
CPC drawer is included. This upgrade is non-concurrent.
– Can change the model capacity identifier, the capacity setting, or both.
The MCI can be concurrently changed. Concurrent upgrades can be accomplished for both
permanent
and
temporary
upgrades.
Licensed Internal Code upgrades (MES-ordered)
The LICCC provides for server upgrade without hardware changes by activation of additional
(previously installed) unused capacity. Concurrent upgrades through LICCC can be done for
the following components and situations:
Processors (logical CPs, IFL processors, Internal Coupling Facility (ICF) processors, IBM
z Systems Integrated Information Processors (zIIPs), and SAPs.
Unused PUs, if they are available on the installed CPC drawers, or if the MCI for the CPs
can be increased.
Memory, when unused capacity is available on the installed memory cards. The
plan-ahead memory option is available for customers to gain better control over future
memory upgrades. See 2.4.4, “Memory upgrades” on page 63 for more details.
Concurrent hardware installation upgrades (MES-ordered)
Configuration upgrades can be concurrent when installing extra cards, PCIe I/O drawers,
I/O drawers, and features:
HCA2-C, HCA3-O, or PCIe fanout cards
I/O cards (features), when slots are available in the installed I/O drawers and PCIe I/O
drawers
I/O drawers and PCIe I/O drawers
zBX Blade features
The concurrent I/O upgrade capability can be better used if a future target configuration is
considered during the initial configuration.
Concurrent PU conversions (MES-ordered)
z13s servers support concurrent conversion between all PU types, such as any-to-any PUs,
including SAPs, to provide flexibility to meet changing business requirements.
Model upgrades: A model upgrade from the N10 to the N20 is disruptive. Upgrades from
a N20 single CPC drawer to a N20 with two CPC drawers is also disruptive.
