Chapter 5. Updating the ProtecTIER servers
Use the procedures in this section to update the ProtecTIER servers to the latest
version of ProtecTIER.

Check the version of ProtecTIER running on

Download the most current version of
ProtecTIER (v3.1.x.x) from the IBM website
and copy the files to a CD. “Downloading the ProtecTIER v3.1.x.x fix

Install the ProtecTIER updates. “Downloading the ProtecTIER v3.1.x.x fix
update” on page 12
Checking the ProtecTIER version
Before you begin
Perform the procedure below on each server for which you need version
information. Make note of the ProtecTIER version for each server to help you
determine how to proceed at the end of this section.
Procedure
1. Log in to the server:
a.
Connect a USB keyboard and monitor (if not already present) to the server.
b. Verify that the server is powered-on:

If it is powered-on, go to step 2.
v
If it is not powered-on do so now, wait for the boot cycle to complete,
then go to step 2.
Notes:
v
During the boot cycle one or more warning or failure messages, including
ones specific to Eth4 and Eth5, may display. These messages are expected
and are not cause for alarm.
v
During the boot cycle, the ProtecTIER file systems are mounted. If the
message:
Running...
displays, press <enter> to proceed to the login
prompt.
2.
At the login prompt, log in with the ID
ptadmin
and the password
ptadmin
.
3. At the command line, type
menu
and press Enter. The ProtecTIER Service menu
displays.
