must restart the compute node to use DSA Preboot. To install Portable DSA or DSA
Preboot or to download a DSA Preboot CD image, go to http://www.ibm.com/
support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=SERV-DSA.
If IPMItool is installed in the compute node, you can use it to view the
system-event log. Most recent versions of the Linux operating system come with a
current version of IPMItool. For information about IPMItool, complete the
following steps.
Note:
Changes are made periodically to the IBM website. The actual procedure
might vary slightly from what is described in this document.
1.
Go to http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/.
2.
Click
Linux
.
3.
Click the
Linux blueprints
tab.
4.
Click
Blueprints for Linux on IBM systems
, and then click
Using Intelligent
Platform Management Interface (IPMI) on IBM Linux platforms
.
The following table describes the methods that you can use to view the event logs,
depending on the condition of the compute node. The first two conditions
generally do not require that you restart the compute node.
Table 7. Methods for viewing event logs
Condition
Action
The compute node is not hung and is
connected to a network.
Use any of the following methods:
v
In a web browser, type the IP address of
the Chassis Management Module and go
to the Event Log page.
v
Run Portable or Installable DSA to view
the event logs or create an output file that
you can send to IBM Support.
v
Use IPMItool to view the system-event
log.
The compute node is not hung and is not
connected to a network.
Use IPMItool locally to view the
system-event log.
The compute node is hung.
Use any of the following methods:
v
If DSA Preboot is installed, restart the
compute node and press F2 to start DSA
Preboot and view the event logs.
v
If DSA Preboot is not installed, insert the
DSA Preboot CD and restart the compute
node to start DSA Preboot and view the
event logs.
v
Alternatively, you can restart the compute
node and press F1 to start the Setup
utility and view the POST event log or
system-event log. For more information,
see “Viewing event logs through the
Setup utility” on page 64.
IBM Dynamic System Analysis Preboot diagnostic program
IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot diagnostic program collects and
analyzes system information to aid in diagnosing compute node problems.
