Solving software problems
The system does not
turn off when you
press the on/off
switch

If running Windows, check the Power Management utility
of the Control Panel. The system should behave according
to this setting.

If you are outside Windows (for example, in DOS), you
may need to hold the On/Off button for 4 seconds to turn
the power off.

Enter the Setup Utility and select
Power Management
.
Ensure that the Power Switch<4 sec. parameter is set to
Power Off
.
The system does not
go into suspend
when you press the
on/off switch

Standby
.
The phone rings and
the computer comes
out of Standby, but a
fax isn’t received

The fax software must be open and set to receive faxes.
Refer to the documentation that came with your fax
software to make sure it is set up to answer the phone.

In some cases, the computer may require additional rings
before a fax is received. Allow the phone to ring a few
more times.
If the problem is...
Here’s what to do...
Periodically use the IBM Update Connector to look for available
updates for the software that came from the factory with your
computer.
If any of these problems continue after taking the actions listed,
run the diagnostics programs that came with your computer. If you
need service, see “HelpWare support and services” on page 81.
