4.7.3.12 Configuring DFS
The distributed file system (DFS) feature enables users to easily access and manage files that
are physically distributed across networks. DFS allows users to ignore the physical locations
of files they access. That is, files distributed on multiple servers are presented to users as if the
files reside in the same location on a network. Users can organize the shared folders that
reside on different computers on the same network to form a separate, logical, and
hierarchical shared file system.
Prerequisites
The hardware of the N2000 server has been installed and powered on.
You have logged in to Windows Storage Server 2012.
A CIFS shared folder has been configured and enabled.
Servers configured with the DFS feature have been added to a domain.
Procedure
Step 1
Choose
Tools
>
DFS Management
from the menu bar of the Server Manager.
Step 2
In the navigation tree, choose
DFS Management
>
Namespaces
.
Step 3
Right-click
Namespaces
and choose
New Namespace
from the shortcut menu.
Step 4
Click

, and enter the name of the server in the specified domain, for example,
RH2285-121
.
If you have logged in to the server as a local administrator, you need to type the user
name and password that are used to log in to the domain and press
Enter
. After the
server is found, click
OK
. You are returned to the
Namespace Server
page. Click
Next
.
If you logged in to the server as a domain administrator, find out the server directly and
click
Next
.
Step 5
Set
Name
to the name of the namespace (for example,
DFS-backup
) and click
Next
.
