SCSI/LAN Combination Board
10BT/100TX LAN Controller
The embedded 10BT/100TX LAN controller supports the following standards: 100 Mbits
per second over 2-pair, category-5, unshielded twisted pair (UTP), or shielded twisted pair
(STP); 10 BaseT, 10 Mbits per second, ISO 8802-3 (IEEE 802.3 standard).
The LAN adapter contains two internal connectors.
• Wake On LAN (WOL) which enables a host computer, using Magic Packet technology, to
remotely (over the network) power on computers (Remote Power On) or wake them up
(Remote Wake Up) from energy-saving Sleep mode.
For these functions to work, the WOL cable must be connected between the three-pin
connector (J8), on the SCSI/LAN Combination board, and the WOL connector on the
system board. Refer to the section “SCSI/LAN Combination Board” in this chapter to
locate the position of the J8 connector on the SCSI/LAN combination board and refer to
the section “System Board Overview” in the chapter “System Board” for the WOL
connector on the system board.
The LAN adapter that uses the Remote Power On feature must be installed further
from the processors than any other supplementary LAN adapter card. How to use the
Remote Power On feature is described in detail in the User’s Guide provided with the
PC Workstation.
• External Start connector which enables LAN activity, the SCSI LED activity on the
front panel for SCSI hard disk drive accesses, and external SCSI cable detection.
The external cable must be connected between the thirteen-pin connector (J4), on the
SCSI/LAN combination board, to the HP External Start connector on the system board.
Refer to the section “SCSI/LAN Combination Board” in this chapter for the position of
the J4 connector on the SCSI/LAN combination board and refer to the section “System
Board Overview” in the chapter “System Board” for the HP External Start connector
position on the system board.

activity, SCSI Led activity on the front panel
for hard disk drive accesses, and external SCSI
cable detection.
Located near the J9 connector.
J9
Wake On LAN connector, 3-pin. Enables a host
computer to remotely power on computers
(over the network).
Located between the J9 and J3
connectors.
