Policy Routing Overview
Policy routing is to make forwarding decisions based on user-defined policies. Different from the normal
destination-based routing, policy routing can make routing decisions based on the source address and
other criteria in addition to the destination IP address.
The Switch 4800G series implement policy routing through QoS policies. You can configure traffic
classification and traffic redirecting action so that packets matching specific criteria will be forwarded
along the specified path, thus to implement flexible routing.
Policy routing takes precedence over destination-based routing. That is, if a packet meets the match
criteria, policy routing applies; otherwise, destination-based routing applies.

Configuring Traffic Redirecting
Before configuring policy routing, you need to:
z
Configure a QoS policy, that is, to configure the match criteria and a redirecting action for policy
routing.
z
Apply the QoS policy, that is, to define the occasion to which the policy routing applies.
