3.4 Tool Clamping
3.4.1 Tool Changing
Vertical Spindle
The tool can be changed by the tool changer or by
hand. Operation of the tool changer can be read up
in chapter 4.1.
Larger tools with the following dimensions must
always be changed by hand:
• longer than 250 mm
• larger than Ø 160 mm
• heavier than 8 kg
Danger
Tool cutting tips are extremely sharp - wear suitable
gloves when changing the tool by hand. Don’t hold
the tool above the flange. Otherwise there will be a
danger of pinching when clamping the tool.
Use only tools which are suitable for cutting the
material intended. Please also note, that certain
tools are only accepted for speeds up to a certain
limit.
Hold the tool and push the tool changing button twice
within one second. The tool clamping system will
release the tool and eject it.
Insert new tool. Please make sure, that the groove in
the flange matches up with the drive keys.
Press the tool changing button once. The tool is pulled
into the spindle.
3.4 Tool Clamping
Standard equipment of the Hermle UWF is a tool
clamping system according to DIN 69871 and tool
draw bolts to DIN 69872-19 form A (ISO 7388/2A).
The clamping system features a cone according to
DIN 2079 size 40 form A
for tools with steep taper ISO 40.
Tool tapers must conform with quality class AT 4
(taper tolerance DIN 7178 part 1).
The machine is shipped with 5 draw bolts for 5 tools,
according to the installed system.
