Maintaining the incubator
7.5
Replacing an agitator
NOTE:
This section does not apply to PC4200 models, which have a built-in agitator.
Use the following procedure to replace an agitator.
To replace an agitator in the incubator
1
Turn off the incubator and disconnect it from AC power.
2
Remove the agitator from the incubator.
!
CAUTION:
On PC3200 models, do not roll out more than one shelf at a time if they have
agitators on them. Having more than one shelf open at a time may cause the
incubator to roll forward and cause injury.
a
Disconnect the I/O connector (i.Series models only) and power cord from the inside of the
incubator.
b
To reduce the weight of the agitator, remove the drawers from the storage frame before lifting it.
For instructions, refer to the Platelet Agitator Operation Manual.
c
When lifting the agitator, hold the agitator on the ends rather than in the middle. Lifting from
the middle may cause the frame to bow and affect operation. For more information, refer to the
Platelet Agitator Operation Manual.
3
Install the new agitator. For information and instructions, see
Section 3.10, “Setting up agitators in the
incubator.”
4
If you are installing a Helmer i.Series agitator in an i.Series incubator, do the following:
a
Confirm that the motion alarm settings are correct and change them if needed. For more
information and instructions, see Section 4.4.3, “Changing the settings for motion alarms.”
b
Reset the cycle counter for the agitator. For instructions, see Section 7.5.1, “Resetting agitator
cycle counters on i.Series models.”
7.5.1
Resetting agitator cycle counters on i.Series models
When replacing an agitator that is installed in the incubator, reset the agitator cycle counter before using the
agitator. Resetting the counter will ensure that the correct cycle count information is displayed for the new
agitator, and that the agitator maintenance reminder appears at the proper time.
When you reset the counter, status information is recorded in the agitator count log for that agitator
position. For more information about this log and instructions to view it, see Section 6.10.2, “Viewing the
agitator count log.”
