4.27 ADJUST FAN BELT- DIESEL
The fan belt has proper tension if there is a deflection
of between 0.28 to 0.35 in. (7 to 9 mm) when the belt is
pressed in the middle of the span (A).
1. Stop the engine and remove the key.
2. Apply moderate pressure to the belt between the
pulleys.
3. If tension is not correct, loosen the alternator
mounting bolts and pull the alternator out until the
deflection of the belt falls within acceptable limits.
4. Replace fan belt if it is worn or damaged.
CAUTION: To avoid personal injury, be sure to
stop the engine before checking belt tension.
