Packing the column
This procedure assumes that the adapter and top plate are fitted onto the column (see
Fitting the top plate and adapter, on page 41).
CAUTION
If the hydraulic chamber vent valve is opened while there is pres-
sure in the hydraulic chamber, liquid will spray out. Take necessary
precautions to avoid personal injury or damage to equipment.

Make sure that the adapter is in its starting position (Fitting the top plate and adapter,
on page 41).
CAUTION
Make sure that the pivot stand locking pin is secured before
starting the process so that the column cannot turn over by
accident.
CAUTION
Make sure that the top plate is completely closed by confirming
that the bayonet tool in the top plate is aligned with the ma-
chined mark on the top bayonet.

Make sure that the hydraulic chamber outlet has been sealed.

If any of the tubing from the system to the column has a 5/16" straight valve or SRV-
1 valve, make sure that these are open.
NOTICE
Ensure that the full flow path is unrestricted when pumping
liquid into the column.
