Over-pressure effects
The column glass tube made of borosilicate glass will break and fall to the ground in big
pieces. An operator standing close to the column may receive cuts and scratches. The
pressure level to splinter depends of the glass tube condition.
Pressure safety equipment missing
If an over pressure event occurs when not using pressure safety equipment, see Handling
over-pressure in the column, on page 51.
Risk assessment
In order to secure safe operation of the equipment it is the user’s responsibility to perform
a risk assessment and put safety measures in place, see Safety Precautions.
Handling over-pressure in the
column
If the column exceeds column design pressure, follow this procedure:
1
Stop the pump.
2
Alert people in the room that the column is over-pressurized.
3
Monitor the pressure.
4
Take all necessary safety precautions before depressurizing the column.
5
Try to release the pressure by opening the flow path through the column using the
system software. If this is not possible, loosen the tube connected to the adapter at
the pump side at least 1.5 meters from the column to allow the column to depressur-
ize.
6
Check the column for any signs of damage and replace damaged parts (adapter
seal, O-rings, glass tube etc.).
Releasing pressure from the
hydraulic chamber
CAUTION
If the hydraulic chamber vent valve is opened while having pressure
in the hydraulic chamber liquid will spray out. Take necessary pre-
cautions to avoid personal injury or damage on equipment.
