Check the tie bars [901] for any signs of visible damage and that they sit securely in
the top bayonet [804]. If necessary replace damaged tie bars (see Replacing tie bars,
on page 139).

Check the column tube [201] for any signs of damage. If necessary replace the column
tube.
Reassembling the column tube assembly

Carefully insert the column tube [201] so that it comes into contact with the top
bayonet [804].

Refit the tie bars [901]. See Replacing tie bars, on page 139.

Place the bottom flange [805] over the threaded ends of the tie bars [901] and into
contact with the column tube. Ensure that the planar surface on the outer rim of the
bottom flange is aligned with the planar surface of the top bayonet and that the
holes for the pivot stand are aligned.

Place the washers [119] onto the tie bars at the bottom flange and then loosely screw
the nuts [806] onto the threads. Do not tighten.

Insert a centering tool in one end of the column tube.

Carefully lift the column tube assembly (B) and lay it on its planar side making sure
that the glass column tube does not become damaged due to the looseness of the
flanges.
