Site Stability
The surface stability of your mounting location is an important factor. Building thermal
expansion and/or surface vibrations can lead to a degradation of the performance of a
SONAbeam terminal.
Locating your SONAbeam terminals as close as possible to a supporting wall or the edge
of a building’s rooftop and as far away from such equipment as rooftop HVAC units will
often prove most effective.
Locating SONAbeam terminals near the edge of the rooftop (and facing that edge…) can
provide important advantages, including:
A reduction of surface vibrations…
A reduced likelihood of maintenance workers passing in front of a terminal
A reduced likelihood of new rooftop equipment being erected in front of the
terminal…
A reduction of the adverse effects of scintillated air, created by a hot roof
surface or ventilation ducts…
The following Application Notes are available on request:

East-West Orientation
Mounting the unit directly facing the sun can cause saturation of the photo detector. This
may prevent the system from operating properly for a few minutes during a certain time
of the year due to sunrise or sundown. Mounting the units slightly away from pointing
directly at the sun can avoid this from happening.
Accessibility to Power, Ground and Communications Feeds
Suitable power, ground and communications feeds must be brought to your selected
mounting location.
Typically, interconnecting the indoor power source and communications terminations
with a SONAbeam terminal located outside will entail locating an appropriate roof
penetration point and running suitable conduit between your indoor and outdoor
locations.
WARNING!
All power, ground and communications feeds must be run in full compliance with
all local electrical and building safety codes…
