Customer Interface Box
Your Customer Interface Box is intended to provide installable connectivity between
your SONAbeam terminal and your network, power and terminal management interfaces.
For rooftop installations, while arguably convenient, in some special cases you may
choose to omit this intermediary junction box and run your terminal interfaces – through
a suitable conduit – from your terminal directly to your cabling closet – through an
appropriate penetration point – where connections to your network, power source and
management computer(s) are made.
When the Customer Interface Box is included in your installation plans, provide an
enclosure that will accommodate your entire interface needs and as well as meet the
demands of its surrounding environment. When installed outdoors, your Customer
Interface Box should meet the requirements of NEMA 3, or equivalent.
Additional Considerations
When preparing for your SONAbeam installation, consider all of the supporting
networking requirements. This may include:
Computers that will host SONAbeam Terminal Controller (STC) software for
monitoring link performance and managing configuration changes…
CAT 5/CAT-6 serial and/or LAN connection(s) to the SONAbeam terminals for
monitoring and managing your SONAbeam link(s)…
NOTE…
While the typical SONAbeam installation includes a CAT 5 cable interface to manage
the terminal through a LAN connection, a secondary CAT 5 cable interface to the
terminal’s Serial Console Port can pay enormous dividends as a backup connection.
The ‘insurance’ provided by a secondary, serial connection to your terminal is
especially prudent when the SONAbeam is mounted in a less-than-accessible location!
At the very least, a secondary, serial interface from your SONAbeam to your Customer
Interface Box will provide access to complete diagnostic capabilities from that location.
SM or MM fiber (dependent on the interface option selected for your E-Series
terminal) optic network interfaces to your Customer Interface Boxes, with
appropriate patch cords, media converters and/or switches/routers and/or
attenuators and/or other fiber modules…
