3.
Centre the alignment steering block, as shown in
Figure 26
.
4.
Using the terminal’s coarse azimuth and elevation controls, manually point each
optical head in the general direction of its associated terminal at the other side of
your link.
5.
Using the attached Alignment Telescope as a viewfinder, carefully make
azimuth and elevation adjustments to aim each optical head at its associated
SONAbeam terminal at the other end of the link. (Target the associated terminal
as best you can by using the coarse alignment controls.)
6.
Lock the coarse alignment adjustment in place by tightening the locking plate
nut and the four elevation screws until they are snug.
7.
When you can sight the face of the SONAbeam terminal at the other end of the
link, use the fine-tuning adjustment screws to ‘target’ the associated SONAbeam
terminal in the cross hairs of the Alignment Telescope.
NOTE…
It is important to get the coarse alignment as close as possible to maximize the
usable range of the fine-tuning adjustment mechanism.
Aligning the terminals to each other with the Alignment Scope does not
necessarily mean that a signal will be immediately acquired. The Alignment
Scope will get you close, but a search routine is likely required to find and
maximize the signal.
