Beep Codes
If the POST finds an error and cannot display a message, the server's speaker emits a series of beeps to
indicate the error, for example, a failure of bit 3 in the first 64 KB of RAM is indicated by a 2-1-4 beep
code (a burst of two beeps, a single beep, and a burst of four beeps).
The following tables list the beep codes when it encounters an error. The first table lists fatal errors that
lock up the server. The second table lists nonfatal errors that do not lock up the server.
Fatal errors are generally the result of a failed main logic board or some other add-on component (SIMM,
server battery, etc.). Nonfatal errors can occur due to an improper connection between the server's rear
panel video connector and the monitor.
