Dell WebPC Computers User’s Guide
documentation for the software or hardware. Typically, readme files provide installa-
tion information, describe new product enhancements or corrections that have not
yet been documented, and list known problems.
If you were trying to install new hardware, double-check configuration settings and
available computer resources. Also make sure that you changed the appropriate set-
tings in the system setup program for the computer’s new hardware configuration
(see Appendix B, “System Setup Program”).
If you need additional technical assistance on the installation of hardware or software,
contact the product manufacturer or the company from whom you purchased the
product.

Use the following sections to perform an initial check of your computer or to isolate a
problem.

Improperly set switches and controls, loose cables, and improperly connected cables
are the most likely sources of problems for your computer. A quick check of all the
switches, controls, and cable connections can easily solve these problems. Usually
reseating (disconnecting and then reconnecting) the cables corrects these problems.
NOTE: See Chapter 1, “System Features,” for the location of your computer’s exter-
nal connectors and controls.
To check computer connections, perform the following steps:
1.
Reseat all power cables connected to the computer, the monitor and devices,
and their electrical outlets.
2.
Reseat the keyboard and mouse interface cable connectors to the proper con-
nectors. The keyboard connects to a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port connector
located on the back of the computer. The mouse connects directly into a USB
port connector on the back of the keyboard.
3.
Be sure that the computer is turned on, and then reseat any devices attached to
the USB port connectors and any USB adapters.
You must firmly attach each of the interface cable connectors to an appropriate
connector on the back of the computer or keyboard and to the interface connec-
tor on the device. The captive screws of any serial and parallel interface cable
connectors must be secure enough to ensure a firm connection to the adapter.
4.
Reseat the video-interface cable connectors (blue) to the video connector on the
back of the computer and to the connector on the back of the monitor.
NOTE: On some monitors, the video interface cable is permanently attached.
