You can plug a USB device into any USB port connector.

When replacing old devices, such as a keyboard or mouse, you must connect the 
new device before disconnecting the old. 

‡

Connect the mouse to one of the two USB port connectors on the keyboard.

As shown in Figure 1-5, USB port connectors are keyed so that you can only attach 
devices one way. For the location of USB port connectors, see Figures 1-2 and 1-4.

Although many devices today use the USB connectivity standard, you can connect 
older devices by using USB adapters. These adapters enable serial and parallel ports
