If current leakage exceeds the standard value, a shorted
circuit is likely to exist.
After warming up the engine, replace the battery with a
fully charged battery.
Connect a tester between the battery terminals.
Connect an ampere meter between the terminals of the
main fuse.
Turn the headlight ON and start the engine.
Gradually increase the engine speed and measure the
charging voltage at the specified rpm.

When measuring current using a tester, set it to a high
range, and then bring the range down to an
appropriate level. Current flow higher than the range
selected may blow out the fuse in the tester.
•
While measuring current, do not turn the ignition on.
A sudden surge of current may blow out the fuse in
the tester.
•
Be sure that the battery is fully charged before
performing this test. The amount of current flow may
change abruptly if not sufficiently charged. Use a
battery whose specific gravity is 13.0 ~ 13.2V.
•
When the engine is started using the starter motor, a
large amount of current may flow from the battery
temporarily.
•
If the probes are connected in reverse order, the
registered current flow direction when charging and
discharging the battery will be reversed as well.
•
Do not disconnect the battery or any cable in the
charging system without first switching off the
ignition switch.
•
Failure to follow this precaution can damage the
tester or electrical components.

CHARGING SYSTEM INSPECTION
CURRENT LEAKAGE INSPECITION
Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the
negative battery cable from the battery.
Connect an ampere meter between negative (-)
terminal and ground cable.
With the ignition switch off, check for current leakage.
LEAK CURRENT : Not to exceed 1mA
