3. OPERATOR TRAINING AND SAFETY
3.1 Training
The employer is responsible for ensuring that each worker receives adequate training in matters pertaining
to health and safety, with specific reference to their respective jobs and working areas. Training must be
provided at the following times:
–
when the worker is newly engaged;
–
when the worker is transferred or is moved to a different job;
–
whenever new work equipment or new machines are being introduced.
3.2 Operator coaching
It is the Manufacturer’s duty, when delivering a new unit, to provide the end user with the necessary
information in order to ensure that the unit is operated properly and safely.
The Operation and Maintenance Manual is a vital document for ensuring that tasks are carried out safely
and it is therefore
MANDATORY to read through its contents prior to operating the unit
.
3.3 Clothing
The operator must wear clothing that is appropriate for the kind of processing for which the unit is to be
used and we therefore recommend that operators wear clothing that is both hygienic and suitable for the
working environment in question.
3.4 General duties
The operator/user’s main task is to manually load the product to be processed into the unit, to unload the
processed product from the unit and to ensure that the unit processes the product as it should.
Thus the operator will never be exposed to any risk on condition that:
–
the unit is only being utilised for the purposes for which it was originally designed;
–
the work areas comply with the requirements;
–
the procedures described in the Operation and Maintenance Manual are strictly adhered to.
