Shifting
Lock button
There is a lock button on the shift
handle to prevent false selection of P
(stop) or R (reverse) on other driving
stops.
Do not press the button while the
vehicle is in motion.
You only need to press the button if
the vehicle is stationary and you are
planning to pull in P (stop) or R
(reverse).
Shift lever operation
Operate the gear lever as indicated by
the following arrow when shifting:
: Free shift.
: Press and hold the lock button to
change gear.
: Press the lock button and press the
brake pedal to change gear.
Gears
P: Parking gear
The transmission is locked
mechanically at the parking gear.
Engage the parking (P) gear when the
vehicle is motionless and the hand
brake is drawn back.
Note
When the vehicle is parked on
the ramp, it should first step
down the brake pedal and pull
up the handbrake before
hanging into P gear.
R: reverse gear
The reverse (R) gear can be engaged
only when the vehicle is motionless
and the engine idles.
N: neutral
The neutral (N) gear can be engaged
when the vehicle is motionless and
the engine idles for a long time (for
such purposes as waiting for a traffic
light or for a traffic jam).
