13. Charging the Battery
If the battery gets low on the Portable Base, the unit will
display LOWBAT message, shut down the wireless commu-
nication and will go into a sleep mode. The operation is
restored when the power returns to normal operating
conditions.
If the power on the camera reaches critical level, the
camera will notify the base about the low battery status,
disable wireless communication and will go into a sleep
mode. At this time the base will display a LOWBAT
message with the corresponding camera number in the
upper corner. While the camera is in sleep mode and the
solar charger is connected, the battery will get charged
back up and the operation will be restored automatically.
The 6V rechargeable battery in the Camera and Portable
Base can be charged using one of two different methods.
The first method is connecting the Solar Charger to the
BuckEye Cam
TM
in the location where it is being used. The
second method is using the supplied wall charger. Each
method is explained further on the next page.
Regardless of the method of charging, we recommend fully
charging the battery with the 6V Wall Charger before the
first use (approximately 10 hours).
Charging with the Solar Charger {Recommended}
When the Solar Charger is attached to your BuckEye
Cam
TM
system, a “trickle charge” is always applied to the
battery. This method of charging will cut down the num-
ber of visits to the Camera to charge or switch the battery.
Note: In colder climates, the solar charging method will
extend the life of the battery due to the heat generated in
the battery while charging.
Connecting the Solar Charger
The solar charger can be
connected directly to the supplied mounting bracket. You
can also choose to mount the charger away from the
camera and mount it directly to a tree or barn. Just make
sure the cord connected to the solar panel can reach the
Camera or Portable Base.
