Technician Interface
The Technician Interface resides in the router operating system kernel and
automatically loads when you boot the router. You access the Technician Interface
through the Model 5000 chassis service port. The interface scripts let you display
information about various protocols and network services and enable or disable
protocols, circuits, lines, and services.
The Technician Interface is a command-line interface that requires knowledge of
command syntax, the management information base (MIB), and the Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Refer to Using the Technician Interface
Software (router software) or Getting Started with the Technician Interface
Software (BayStream software) for more information about how to use it.
Typical Network Applications
This section contains diagrams showing the System 5000 chassis with Model
5380 and Model 5580 routers and various System 5000 modules installed for
network connectivity and management.
The additional System 5000 modules shown in the diagrams include:
• Model 5310 Ethernet Network Management Modules (NMMs) for
high-performance Ethernet network management of the hub.
• Model 530x Ethernet Host Modules for Ethernet port connectivity.
• Model 5510 Token Ring Network Management Modules for SNMP linking
between the hub and the Optivity network management system.
• Model 550x Token Ring Host Modules for token ring port connectivity.
• Model 590x FDDI Host Modules for FDDI port connectivity.
• Model 5910 FDDI Network Management Modules for distributed
management of 100 Mb/s FDDI networks.
• Model 5390 Communications Server for remote access.
• Model 58000 10/100 Ethernet Switch for 100 Mb/s switching or a Model
5380 or Model 5580 router with at least one 100 BASE-T net module
installed in the router.
