Memory Card

The routers have a memory card connector on the board. A memory card contains
the router nonvolatile file system (NVFS) including software to boot the routers
independently of the other modules in the Model 5000 chassis. The memory card
stores the image file, configuration files, and the configuration script.

You can perform upgrades by FTP or TFTP transfer from a host network
management application workstation to the memory card. The transfer can be
performed while the router is running.

You can partition a memory card or install additional memory cards in other
router modules in a Model 5000AH chassis (with a PPX backplane) to provide
redundant file storage. The redundant storage can also be used for “fall-back”
staging of previous configuration files during system upgrades.

Backplane Ethernet Segment Selection

The chassis backplane Ethernet bus consists of 12 Ethernet segments. You can
connect each router interface to one segment by setting the segments through the
service port terminal using the Service Port Diagnostics Menu or through
Optivity.
