Multifunction Data Acquisition devices (NI
DAQ)
In addition to the Energy Probe, you can also use NI DAQ devices to gather energy data from
your target and view the results in Streamline. Setup differs slightly from the Energy Probe and
a few additional options are necessary in the Energy capture field of the Capture Options dialog
box.
12.5.1
Prerequisites
You need the following to collect power statistics using a NI-DAQ device:
•
NI-DAQ hardware
•
NI-DAQmx Base software installed on your host machine. This software package
includes drivers for the NI-DAQ device.
All necessary software is available on the National Instruments website, http://www.ni.com.
12.5.2
Setup
To connect the NI-DAQ device to your target and measure one channel, follow these steps:
1.
Connect the Ai1 connections on the NI-DAQ device to go across the shunt resistor on
your target.
2.
Connect Ai0 negative to ground.
3.
Loop Ai0 positive to Ai1 negative.
The Ai0 connectors is measured across the load, which is used to derive the voltage.
Note
To measure additional channels, repeat these step using additional connectors on the NI-DAQ
device.

Configuring Streamline
To use you NI-DAQ device with Streamline, you must select the National Instruments DAQ
option from the Energy Capture drop-down menu and enter a valid system name in the Device
field. For example,
Dev1
. Consult the National Instruments documentation for instructions on
how to locate the system name of NI-DAQ device. As with Energy Probe, you must configure
caiman.exe in the Tool path field and configure all channel options. For more information, see
