System features

Updating the Software

CAUTION

Do not use this procedure unless you have updated software and
intend to update it at this time. Once you have chosen Bootload and

pressed the 

 key, the instrument will expect a firmware

download. To recover from this status, if the firmware upgrade is not
performed, it is necessary to disconnect the instrument from the
mains power supply by removing the power cord from the rear panel
of the instrument.

Software updates can be downloaded from a PC connected to the MT8850A/MT8852A
through the GPIB or RS232 connector. This can only occur when Bootload is selected.

1. Press 

the 

 hard key.

2. 

Choose “System features”.

3. Press 

the 

 key.

4. 

Choose “Software update”.

5. Press 

the 

 key.

The MT8850A/MT8852A Software update screen is displayed.

6. Choose 

“Bootload”.

7. 

Download the software upgrade from the connected PC.

The download procedure requires that you copy some files from the upgrade disk and
run a batch program to implement the changes. This is described in the Readme
document supplied on the upgrade disk.

CAUTION

Do not stop the upgrade once started, as you will not be able to
restore the instrument to operation. If this should occur because of a
PC breakdown, contact your Anritsu Service Center for advice.
