The
e-m@iler
incorporates the circuitry and intelligence to communicate with a
smartcard. The card should be inserted into the
SMARTCARD
slot at the right-hand
side of the
e-m@iler
. Insert the card with the front
gold side up
as shown below:
In time, card issuers will be extending the capabilities of smartcards to make the most
of their potential. The possibilities are vast, but to give a flavour of what will be
available, the following outlines some expected applications:
♦
Universal credit card
– It is expected that many of the traditional credit cards will
be combined onto a single smartcard making it possible to enjoy the benefits of a
card that will be accepted at millions of merchant locations around the world and
on the internet.
♦
Wallet consolidation
– The smartcard will help simplify your life by combining the
many and various cards in your wallet. In time, a single smartcard will replace your
clubcard, storecard, reward and discount cards as well as special offer/programme
cards. What's more –
only you
will be able to access it.
♦
On-line retailing
– You will be able to insert a credit smartcard into the
e-m@iler
and unlock the power of internet shopping as well as enjoy the latest in
entertainment, shopping deals, travel discounts, and unique online auction items.
♦
Electronic wallet
– An
e-wallet
will make it simple to shop online. When you shop
with an e-wallet, you'll only have to enter your billing and shipping information
once – your e-wallet will then fill out the online order forms at the touch of a button.
And to make gift giving easier, the e-wallet will also be able to store the shipping
addresses of friends and family. The e-wallet will also make it simpler to shop.
With hundreds of merchants to choose from, you'll be able to buy just about
anything, as well as take advantage of great deals and discounts at exciting online
merchants.
♦
Security
– As merchants increasingly adopt chip and authentication technology,
the smartcard will bring added levels of security. For online shopping, your
password-protected smartcard and
e-m@iler
will work together to authenticate the
transaction. And the card issuer's guarantee will mean that you won't be
responsible for any unauthorised use – online or offline.
