INTERNET GUIDELINES
Here are a few guidelines for you to consider when you're using the internet to
meet people and chat anonymously.
Online, people might not be who they say they are. You could be putting yourself
at risk if you arrange to meet someone you have met on the internet. If you do
agree to meet someone, never go alone, always meet in a public place. Never go
in the other person's car, and do tell a friend where you're going and, just as
importantly, when you'll be back.
Don't give out your name, address, or telephone number or ask anyone else for
this information online.
PlusZone's
chat room and message boards are
unmoderated
(not monitored).
Please do not intimidate or smear others by sending abusive, menacing,
obscene or defamatory messages – you could incur legal liability and be in
breach of the 'Conditions for Amserve' (page 155) if you do.
Note that some chatrooms and message boards contain adult content which is
unsuitable for children. We recommend you use the parental lock (details on the
next page). It is always advisable not to let your children surf the internet
unsupervised.
Searching for a subject
To search for a particular subject on the internet, you will need to use a
search engine
. A number of different search engines are available, but in general they
work the same way: you go to the search engine site and enter the subject or name
you wish to search for. The search engine then searches the internet and lists any sites
containing the words that match your entry. To try out a search engine, go to the
Amsurf home page and select
l
Search

&
A search engine will return a list of
all
sites matching your entry. Note
however that some of these may be web sites that are not displayable.
Remember – the
e-m@iler
's web browser is specifically designed to display
low graphic content sites. General web sites may also be viewed, but due
to their complexity may offer limited access. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A
FAULT.
