Instruction for use with Tracheal Tubes with high-volume low-pressure cuff
Before use check the low pressure cuff for leaks. Prior to intubation or extubation withdraw all air from
the cuff via a syringe. Connect the Cuff Pressure Gauge (eventually by using the connecting tubing) to the
inflation line of the Tracheal Tube. Inflate the cuff to a pressure of 60 - 90 cmH
2
O. This ensures that the cuff is
in close contact with the tracheal wall. Release the pressure immediately by pressing the red release valve
until the pointer reaches the green area “Tracheal tube”. We recommend the intra cuff pressure to be above
22 cmH
2
O due to the risk of aspiration or pneumonia and below 32 cmH
2
O due to the risk of ischemia of
the tracheal mucous membrane (see publication of J. Stauffer in Respiratory Care, July 1999).
Check and monitor the cuff pressure continuously. Adjust pressure increase via the red release valve and
pressure decrease via the inflation bulb.
Use with Ambu® Aura Laryngeal Mask
Functional testing as described in the directions for use must be carried out before using the Ambu Aura
Laryngeal Mask. Insert the Ambu Aura Laryngeal Mask according to directions as described in the direc-
tions for use. Attach the Ambu Cuff Pressure Gauge and its connecting tubing to the inflation line of the
cuff. Without holding the tube, inflate the cuff by pumping with just enough air to obtain a seal, equivalent
to intracuff pressures of approximately 60 cmH
2
O. The pressure in the cuff can be checked constantly by
connecting the Ambu Cuff Pressure Gauge. In case of a pressure increase press the red release valve to
adjust to the desired pressure. The pressure should not be higher than 60 cmH
2
O.
Check and monitor the cuff pressure continuously. Adjust pressure increase via the red release valve and
pressure decrease via the inflation bulb.
Extubation
Deflate the cuffs completely.
Wipe disinfection
Wipe disinfection using conventional surface disinfectants based on alcohol (e.g. Incides® N from Ecolab
Deutschland GmbH) is suitable for disinfection. When choosing a product for disinfection, a disinfectant
with appropriate ranges of action must be used: bactericidal, yeasticidal, tuberculocidal and virucidal.
After the wipe disinfection, the devices must be inspected for visible contamination. If necessary, repeat
the wipe disinfection. After the wipe disinfection, the devices must be checked in accordance with the
section “Functional check“.
CAUTION
• Do not immerse the product in liquids.
• The product cannot be automatic or manual cleaned respectively sterilised.
• Do not clean the glass (plastic material) with aggressive agents.
Metrological Inspection
The accuracy ±2 cmH
2
O of the Cuff Pressure Gauges must be checked every 24 months. If required meas-
