Clinical Guide
A.12. Treatment Guidelines in the Periorbital & Perioral Areas
There are certain guidelines that should be followed when treating the face:
•
Avoid the following areas:
⇒
Superorbital
⇒
Mental nerves
⇒
Exits of the sensory nerves of the neck
•
Ensure that the patient’s head is comfortably positioned
•
No protective eyewear is necessary for either the patient or the practitioner
A.12.1. Unipolar Handpiece
•
During treatment the handpiece must be in complete contact with the skin and
slightly
pressed towards the skin.
•
During treatment the practitioner will slowly and continuously advance the
handpiece in a circular motion.
•
Therapeutic temperature of 106-109.5°F (41-43°C) should be achieved within
one pass (of 30 seconds) with the temperature checked using a laser thermometer.
•
In parallel, every 30 seconds the practitioner will check the temperature using
his/her hand (palpation) in order to make sure the therapeutic temperature in the
treated area is kept at the correct level.
•
Every 30 seconds, or when the patient starts feeling the heat build-up, the
practitioner will rub the skin gently in order to drain the excess fluids into the
lymph nodes and to relieve the heat sensation.
•
When treating under the eye (infraorbital) the practitioner should set the energy
on the unipolar handpiece to 45-50 Watts, pull down the skin under the eye and
treat the skin only in the bone area.
•
Each infraorbital area shall be treated for 1-2 minutes. While treating the eye
areas the practitioner should lower the energy (~45-50 Watts). The practitioner
should move the handpiece in a medial-lateral direction rubbing technique,
triggering the RF energy emission for 2-3 seconds, then stop the emission for 2-3
seconds while moving the handpiece in a medial-lateral direction (to cool down
the treated area) and then repeat the pass.
