Result analysis
Once you have completed an acquisition, Results are displayed to allow you to
analyze the resulting trace.
Report on page 4-3 to see an example of OTDR Trace result display and its
description.
The following functions are provided to make the analysis:
•
Display functions: Cursor, Zoom and Shift of trace (horizontal and vertical)
•
Analysis functions: Events, Addition of markers and Event Table
•
Expert functions: Trace Overlay, Manual measurements, Free and Lock
markers, Delete measurement results and perform an automatic
measurement.
Using the cursors
The
cursor
function allows you to position the A and B cursors on the trace, to
position or remove markers on the trace. Using the cursors in combination with
the Slope, Splice and ORL functions lets you make individual measurements of
any events on the acquired trace.
The cursors are represented as vertical axes:
- the selected cursor(s) is (are) a plain line
- the non-selected cursor is a dashed line.
Use the following procedures to use the cursor functions:
Cursors positioning/shift
When a trace is displayed on the screen, a key allows selection of the A or B
cursor or the selection of both cursors. The selected cursors are shown with a
plain line.
Use the
<
and
>
direction arrows
to move the cursor (or the cursors) on the
trace.
The window displays the following values below the trace:
•
the distance of each cursor from the origin
•
the distance between the two cursors
•
the slope between the two cursors
•
the attenuation between the two cursors
When one of the cursors goes off the screen, a horizontal shift is performed. Use
the

and
↓
keys to make a vertical shift.
If a cursor is off the screen when you select it, as soon as you start to move it, it
will appear at the edge of the screen nearest to its last location.
