Using an OTDR module
This chapter describes the different steps required to make a measurement:
❏
The configuration of the acquisition (manual, auto, etc.) and the acquisition
parameters.
❏
The choice of the results to display.
❏
The start of measurement (acquisition)
❏
The analysis of the results (events, table of results).
❏
Automatic measurements (detection and measurement).
❏
Semi-automatic measurements (by addition of markers)
❏
Manual measurements.
❏
Both end measurements.
❏
Fault locator mode
❏
Macro.
OTDR Test SET-UP
*
To set up the OTDR and then make a measurement of the fiber under test the
following parameters need to be configured:
❏
Acquisition parameters
: Laser wavelength, Acquisition mode, Pulsewidth,
Range, Acquisition time, Resolution.
All these parameters are configured from the
Acquisition
menu of the
OTDR
Test Setup
window.
❏
Measurement result display parameters
: Splice threshold, Reflectance
threshold, Slope threshold, Display ghosts, Slope measurement method,
Display results on trace (with or without launch cable), Display notes in table.
All these parameters are configured from the
Result
menu of the
OTDR
TEST SETUP
window.
❏
Fiber parameters
: Wavelength, Reflective Index, Section A_B,
Backscattering coefficient.
All these parameters are configured from the
Fiber Parameters
menu of the
OTDR TEST SETUP
window.
❏
Trace identification information
: Trace Title, Operator name, Cable
identifier, Fiber number, File number auto-incrementing, Origin location, End
location, Measurement direction.
*. if an OTDR module is installed
