Button Functions
Emergency Clear
Pressing this key causes the radio to clear a currently existing emergency condition. The
green LED of this button blinks to indicate when an emergency condition exists, and the
display indicates the ID of the originator of the emergency. Pressing this key is
functionally equivalent to pressing the HOME button then the CLR button on the radio.
Private
This button enables/disables the optional Aegis/Encryption hardware that can be added to
the radio. The green LED reflects the state of the private setting, green LED on indicates
that the Aegis/Encryption option is enabled; green LED off indicates the option is
disabled. Pressing this key is functionally equivalent to pressing the A1 button on the
radio. This key cannot simultaneously exist with the Scan Add/Delete key.
This function requires configuration in the radio personality programming.
Transmit (XMIT) and Instant Transmit
This key causes a push to talk to be generated to the radio. The radio must obtain a
transmit channel from an EDACS controller and begin transmitting before speech can
begin, so the radio provides a clear to proceed audible beep once the transmit channel
setup is complete. The radio also provides tones to indicate that no channels are available,
when a function cannot be supported, or when it has lost contact with the controller. For a
complete understanding of the radio's audio responses please refer to the Radio Operator's
Manual.
Patching
Attempts to use patching between EDACS channels or from conventional channels to
EDACS channels is not recommended, as it may cause unpredictable results.
Miscellaneous Functions
Some of the following optional buttons may be present in the channel control section of
your console.
Private Line Select (PL<n>)
Private line (or PL) selection on a channel is performed much like frequency selection is
performed.
PL SELECT
buttons are typically labeled
PL1
,
PL2
, etc. To select a PL,
press the button labeled with the desired PL number and the button’s green LED
illuminates (all other PL selections in the channel extinguish). With just one
PL
button, an
alternating selection occurs. In some cases, these may be included as
INSTANT
SELECT
buttons in which case they may be labeled
PL1 SELECT/CALL
,
PL2
SELECT/CALL
, etc.
