CONFINED SPACE ENTRY
3.2.1
Initial Area Check
Before entering a confined space, check around the entrance
area for any hazardous gas concentrations. For oxygen
deficiency or enrichment, a two minute sample is sufficient, but
for toxic or explosive gases it is advisable to sample for at least
five minutes.
If any alarm occurs:
(1)
Evacuate the area.
(2)
Observe the alarm indicator arrows on the display to
identify the nature of the hazardous condition detected.
(3)
Note the hazardous concentration(s) and refer to
supervisory personnel for instructions.
3.2.2
Confined Space Entry Checks
After the initial area checks have given safe results, the confined
space entry checks can be made.
Remove the entrance cover and take a sample of the
atmosphere within the confined space using either of the
following methods:
a.
Attach a lanyard or rope to the Minigas Mk5 and lower it
into the confined space. Remove it after a 5 minute sample
has been taken. If it is then giving an alarm indication, note
the hazardous condition and refer to supervisory personnel.
b.
Draw a sample from the confined space using an
aspirator attachment. If hand aspirating, draw a
continuous 5 minute sample by repeated squeezes on
