14.2 GP-IB Interface Functions and Specifications
GP-IB Interface Functions
Listener Capability
• All of the settings that you can set with the panel
keys can be set through the GP-IB interface except
for power ON/OFF and communication parameters.
• Receives commands from a controller that request
the output of setup data, measured data, and the
like.
• Also receives status report commands.
Talker Capability
Outputs setup information, measured data, and other
information.
Note
Talk-only, listen-only, and controller functions are not
available on this instrument.
Switching between Remote and Local
Modes
When Switching from Local to Remote Mode
Receiving a REN (Remote Enable) message from the
controller when the instrument is in the local mode
causes the instrument to switch to the remote mode.
• The remote indicator (see section 1.1) is turned ON.
• All keys other than the SHIFT (LOCAL) key are
locked.
• Settings entered in local mode are retained even
when the GS820 switches to remote mode.
When Switching from Remote to Local Mode

SHIFT (LOCAL)
when the instrument is in the
remote mode causes the instrument to switch to the
local mode.
• The remote indicator turns OFF.
• Key operations are enabled.
