3 Maintenance and shutdown
3.1 Maintenance
This section describes all maintenance that can be performed by the end user. All other
maintenance and service procedures must be performed by authorized service engineers.
3.1.1 Periodic check for leakage
• Perform leak checks on LC tubing, flow cells, and connections daily, and verify that the drain
on the bottom of the oven compartment is not blocked or closed.
• Do not allow solvents to accumulate.
• Follow a regulated, approved waste disposal program.
• Empty and clean the waste container regularly. Never dispose of such products through the
municipal sewage system.
• Check every day that the mobile phase bottles contain enough mobile phase for the number
of analyses planned.
3.1.2 Periodic check of the oven temperature
The operator should perform regular checks to verify if the actual oven temperature is in
accordance with the set temperature of the 3465 Detector.
Warning:
If the actual temperature exceeds 70 °C, switch off the detector immediately and
contact Waters or the local representatives for service. Do not touch the metal parts inside the
oven compartment because they could be hot. Do not use or switch on the instrument before it is
serviced at the factory.
If the heater is defective and the temperature exceeds 70 °C, the instrument raises an error
message (Err 23).
3.1.3 Flow cell
Check the performance of the detector and flow cell on a daily basis by evaluating background
current, noise, and signal. An increase in background current, noise, and/or a loss of sensitivity
may be a sign of contamination of the working electrode (WE) and/or a sign that maintenance is
required on the reference electrode (REF) of the flow cell. If necessary, perform maintenance on
the flow cell.
