Regulatory and Safety Notices
MXV boards
This section provides information about the safety, EMC, and telephone network Regulatory
Approvals for the video conferencing boards contained within the WG500 system.
Please note that the VTEL WG500 products utilize the Mentec MXV 5040 board internally. The
notices in this addendum refer to the Mentec MXV 5040 board, and apply to the WG500 system
only in that the MXV 5040 board is provided already installed in the VTEL WG500.
Also note that the WG500 is considered a “Class A” product as defined in the standards
EN55022 (European Union), CISPR22 (International standard), AS/NZ 3548 (Australia/New
Zealand), and FCC part 15 (USA), as well as Canadian EMC Regulations. Any reference to
“Class B” in this Appendix is referring to the Mentec MXV 5040 only, and is not applicable to
the integrated system.
Safety
Safety notice
This equipment meets or exceeds requirements for safety in the United States (UL 1950).
The approval for connection of the MXV systems to the public telecommunications network is
conditional on the following being observed by users and suppliers of the equipment:
1.
The adapter must be installed in a host computer which itself must comply with the required
regulations (e.g., IEC950, EN60950, AS3260).
2.
Before any attempt is made to gain access to the host computer, the ISDN cable should first
be detached from the MXV or the wall socket.
3.
These adapters are powered by the host computer’s power supply. The current consumed by
the installed adapters and other auxiliary devices must be within the rated limits of that
power supply. The power requirements of the card may be found in the relevant specifications
section.
4.
The network connection approvals label must remain attached to the device.
5.
The approval applies only to the adapter and not to the host computer.
6.
Suppliers of these adapters to third parties must issue this instruction manual to the end-user,
even when the adapters are pre-installed in a host computer.
7.
Any ports which are intended for the connection of other apparatus, either directly or
indirectly, which bear a label marked “Safety Warning: See instructions for use,” may
produce hazardous conditions on the network when connected to ports not so marked. Before
making such a connection, advice should be sought from a competent engineer.
