DHCP Server
6.6.1.
Introduction
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) uses Boot Strap protocol (BOOTP) for
automatically configuring DHCP clients. DHCP server’s responsibility is to assign TCP/IP
parameters including private IP addresses to DHCP clients automatically.
DHCP server maintains address pools, TCP/IP parameter options are attached per pool.
DHCP server can work irrespective of routing feature in the Switch, but if router is running along
with the DHCP server then administrator should take care about the address pool configurations
in DHCP server and address assignments to the VLAN interface in router as below.
1.
Multiple VLANs bindings to an address pool in DHCP server are not allowed when router
is enabled in the switch.
2.
Router’s specified VLAN IP address/Mask (SubNet) should be greater than DHCP server’s
VLAN binding address pool IP/Mask.
Example: Router assigned VLAN 10’s IP address as 1.2.3.4/24 then
a.
DHCP server VLAN 10’s following address pools are allowed.
i.
1.2.3.0/28
ii.
1.2.3.4/30
b.
Following address pools are not allowed
