3.5.8 Controlling DC Power on Coax
In the Strata RX System, DC power is always supplied to the
front panel Power connector on the
RCU
.
There are then two options for powering the
RXU
:
• DC power from the same source as the RCU, supplied via
the front panel Power connector on the RXU.
• DC power supplied via the coax cable from the RCU.
When the RXU and RCU are in the same location (“co-located”),
either method will work. However, we suggest powering the RXU
and RCU via their front panel connectors to prevent possible
confusion.
If your application requires the RXU and RCU to be separated,
we recommend powering the RXU via the coaxial cable from the
RCU. This will provide a simpler configuration with fewer cables.
WARNING
Turn off DC Power on the coax before
connecting any test equipment.

Two-step control
To prevent inadvertent damage to test
equipment that may be connected to the coaxial cable, there is a
two-step control for the DC Power applied to the coax.
To enable DC Power on the coax, both of the following must be
done:
• The “DC ON COAX” switch on the front of the RCU must
be set to ON.
AND
• The System must be configured to have DC on the coax,
using the DC Power Command Screen. See Section 3.5.8
on page 3-26.

Command Screen
To configure the System for DC on the coax
using the Command Screen, follow these steps:
WARNING
Turn off DC Power on the coax before
connecting any test equipment.
Be sure Strata is connected and powered.
See “Setting Up” and “Turning the power
ON and OFF”.
Start at the Main Screen.
Turn the Control Switch LEFT until the
display reads
75 Ohm Coax.
The display will also indicate
Power On
or
Power Off
.
Push the Control Switch to change the
Power setting.
Display indicates the new setting, then
changes back to the Main Screen after
the default delay.
