6.9 Signal Connections
The details of the many signal connections on the RXU and RCU
are given in Table 6-4.

Function Connector Notes
RF Input
(RXU only) 50 ohm
“N”-type Amplitude should be less than
-25dBm. Stronger signals will
overload RXU and degrade system
performance.
Gen Lock 75 ohm BNC Amplitude should be 400 mV peak-
peak, nominal.
Monitor
(MON.) 75 ohm BNC Output can be configured to be
either ASI or 70 MHz IF depending
on installed hardware and operating
mode chosen.
Signal Output 75 ohm BNC Output may be 70 MHz IF, analog
video, digital ASI, or digital SDI
depending on installed hardware
and operating mode chosen.
70 MHz IF is at 0 dBm.
Signal In
(RCU only) 75 ohm BNC Input is 70MHz IF from RXU or
other RF front end. Input level
should be -10 dBm.
6.10 Data Connections
Both the RXU and RCU have RS-232 data connections. On the
RXU the RS-232 connector is on the rear panel; on the RCU it is
on the front panel.
These female DB-9 connectors are used for three purposes:
• Remote Control using the Strata RX Remote Control
Panel.
• Radio Programming and Monitoring using a PC.
• Wayside Data communication.
The RX can be connected directly to a PC, or it can be interfaced
to a LAN for applications such as remote monitoring and control.
6.10.1 Remote Control
The RX can be controlled from a remote location using the Strata
RX Remote Control Panel. This is typically used for installation in
an aircraft, where the Remote Control is mounted in a cockpit
instrument panel and the RX is in another compartment.
The RX connects to the Remote Control Panel using a standard
null modem cable. One cable is supplied with each Remote
Control Panel ordered. Additional cables can be purchased from
Vislink (part number 56500-108) or at any computer or
electronics store.

6.10.2 Radio Programming and Monitoring
This is used when programming or monitoring the radio using the
RX Configurator software running on a Windows PC.
