5. Select the method to use in capturing:

•

Select Device Control to automatically control the entire capturing
process from Video Capture.

•

Click Batch to mark the clips you want to capture and specify a file
name for each clip. Refer to the “Capturing video by batch” procedure
for details.

•

Select Auto or Auto with no time limit to capture a clip starting from
the current frame.

Note:

When Auto with no time limit is selected, you have the option to select

Seamless Capture under Advanced tab, to help you save a video into another
video file once it reached a size of 4GB, since that is the maximum size under the
FAT32 file system in your hard drive.

6. Type a file name in the File entry box, or click Browse to find other files

or folders. You can also set the type of AVI you want to produce after
capturing. Click Properties and select DV Type-1 or Type-2. Click OK.

7. Click OK to start capturing. Press [

ESC

] to stop capturing anytime. Video

Capture should have automatic control (“device control”) of your
camcorder and should play your tape. The output from the camcorder
should be visible in the Preview window on your computer.

Note:

Sometimes, Video Capture can lose its connection with your camcorder if it

is turned off or disconnected. When this happens, the IEEE-1394 Firewire
(interface card) resets. You may have to close Video Capture and open it again to
re-establish a connection.

Seamless DV Capture

When using the DirectShow driver, the maximum file size is 4GB under the
FAT 32 file system in your hard drive. Yet, you can go beyond this limitation
when using Windows 2000, Windows NT and Windows XP with a NTFS

formatted hard drive partition that allows a file size to exceed 4GB.

Seamless capture gets around this 4GB file size limitation. Once a DV AVI
file reaches 4GB, the remaining video is automatically saved as an another
file. The capturing process remains uninterrupted no matter how long the

video footage is.
