5. Preallocate the capture file creates a temporary file to place your captured
video sequences in. This improves performance as the hard drive does not have to
search for free space to store video data. (This size should match or exceed your
estimated capture size.)
6. Chunk granularity matches the size of each data chunk to be captured with
your target hard drive’s cluster size. Matching sizes ensures more efficient data
transfer and thus improves capture performance. (In most cases, use the default
unless you have a reason not to.)
7. Number of video buffers (1-1000) sets aside additional buffer memory to help
improve captures. (In most cases, use the default unless you know how much
buffer space you can afford.)
8. Default lets Video Capture automatically determine the best settings for your
system. Click this when you do not know what options to specify or are unsure
about your system’s setup.
Capturing from a DV camcorder using an IEEE-1394 (FireWire
card) interface card
MediaStudio Pro allows you to save your files in a DV file format of your
choice. There are two types DV file format: Type 1 and Type 2. Now, you
can pick which type of format you want your project to have by clicking
the appropriate selection in Options.
Microsoft defines two methods of storing DV video data in AVI files, type 1
and type 2. Accordingly, Video Editor fully supports both DirectShow and
VFW codec for DV type 1 and type 2 format. For OHCI compliant IEEE-
1394 capture cards, select the DV Video Encoder type 1 codec in the
Compression tab in the Video Save Options dialog box.
To capture from a DV camcorder with an IEEE-1394 interface card
1. Connect your DV camcorder to the IEEE-1394 interface card. Follow
the instructions of your capture card.
2. Turn your camcorder on and set it to Play mode (or VTR/VCR mode).
3. Run Video Capture.
4. Click Capture: Video or click Record to display the Capture Video
dialog box.
