11.4. Sample Switch Unit
Up to four, eight, or 16 animal cages can be connected to the Sample Switch Unit for sampling; a
separate connection can be used for taking the reference air. The built-in sampler shuttles between
the four, eight, or 16 inlets and the reference air, so that a sample can only be drawn from one cage
at one time.

For transport purposes, the internal pump is held in position by a block of plastic foam.

System configuration
This section describes the connections of a Sample Switch Unit of a CaloSys module working with
push principle (see Sections 11.1.1.1, 11.1.1.2). For instructions about connections of a Sample
Switch Unit of a CaloSys module working with pull principle, see Sections 11.1.2.1, 11.1.2.2.
For drawing the reference air and samples from the animal cages, each of them has to be connected
to the sample air inlets ("1...N") on the rear panel of the Sample Switch Unit via tubing.
The 25-pin port should be linked to the "X04" port on the rear panel of the Calorimetry Master Control
Unit.
