NOTICE
- Measurement errors!
The use of tubing with different lengths will cause errors. Registration of the O2 and CO2
concentration depends on the volume flow through the animal cage and the tubing used.
The pieces of tubing between the Control Unit and the animal cages should all have the same length,
as should those between the animal cages and the Sample Switch Unit.
•
The animal located furthest from the Control Unit should be connected first in order to
determine the length of tubing to be used for the other cages.
•
All devices should be built in the given flow direction.
•
Before carrying out a new test, the CaloSys module devices must be freed from all residues of
the previous test.
•
Brittle tubing/seals should be exchanged.
•
The tubing should be mounted kink-free, be properly seated, and secured.
•
Check that the cages and the connections to the Control Unit and the Sample Switch Unit
have not been confused, i.e. cage1 should always be connected to "Flow OUT 1" and
sampling connection "1" at the Sample Switch Unit.
•
Check that all the pieces of tubing from the Control Unit to the animal cages and from the
animal cages to the Sample Switch Unit have the same length.
•
Lay the cables so that they cannot be mixed up and cannot trip people up.
11.2.1.1. Connections Calorimetry Master Process Control Unit
System configuration
This section describes the connections of a Calorimetry Master Control Unit of a CaloSys module
working with push principle - to be operated with manual calibration (compare Section 11.1.1.1). For
instructions about connections of a Calorimetry Master Control Unit of CaloSys modules working with
push principle - to be operated with automatic or manual calibration, compare Section 11.1.1.2,
11.1.1.3. For instructions about connections of a Calorimetry Master Control Unit of CaloSys modules
working with pull principle, compare Section 11.1.2.
Connect ports "X01…X03" to the PCI interfaces in the PC via the connecting cables provided. "X01"
and "X02" have to be connected to the PCI-9111 card, "X03" has to be plugged into the PCI-9114
card. Connect the "X04" port with the "X04" (25-pin port) connection on the rear panel of the Sample
Switch Unit). Connect the "X05" port to the 37-pin port "X06" of the Calorimetry Slave Control Unit - if
available. (If not, there can be an O2/CO2ext connection between Calorimetry Master Control Unit
and Calorimetry Slave Control Unit.)

The animal cages "1...8" have to be connected to the "Flow OUT" outlets "1...8" via tubes. The
reference cage inlet is connected to the "Flow Ref." connection.
Fresh air supply: connect the "Flow IN" at the rear of the Control Unit via the T-piece and the pressure
control valve to the air pump.
